Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Hello. I’m Mr Steer, the Year 5 class teacher. This is my sixth year of teaching at Fairmeadows, and I have taught in both Year 3 and Year 4, with this year being my third year teaching Year 5!

I have a passion for computing and science and believe these are important for inspiring the future generations of scientists, inventors, coders, game developers and much more! When I’m not at school you’ll find me either spending time with my family and Frank (The sausage dog), going to the gym or indulging in a tub of Ben and Jerry’s with a good film or book.

Mrs Wright and Mrs Haywood will also be working with us in Year 5 this year and we are looking forward to an incredible and fun filled year ahead!

Key Information

  • Please bring your child's labelled book bag into school every day.
  • Please bring a named water bottle. This must contain only water.
  • Year 5 are allowed to bring in healthy snacks (fruit/vegetables) as snack.
  • Please only wear stud earrings at school and on PE days - it helps if the children do not wear them.
  • Come to school in PE kit on Wednesday and Thursday each week.
  • Please communicate with the office using Parent mail or contact Mrs Wright, Mrs Haywood or myself through Seesaw.

Timetable

Homework

Reading - Children should read at least three times a week and bring their reading books daily. This is the most important way you can support your child with learning at home. Evidence of reading should be uploaded to Seesaw and added to the reading at home file, the staff can help you with this if you get stuck!

Timestables - Timestables Rockstars or Hit the Button should also be used daily to help children maintain their timetables knowledge for at least 10 minutes.

Mathletics - Each week we will award a Mathletics champion in the class for the child with the most points that week.

Learning Powers

Our learning powers run throughout school and underpin the core values we work to and hope to develop in the children.

The Learning Powers are:

  1. Enjoy Learning
  2. Have A Go
  3. Concentrate
  4. Keep trying
  5. Be Cooperative
  6. Use Your Imagination
  7. Be Curious
  8. Keep Improving

These Powers underpin our curriculum aims and develop growth-mind-set. They also provide our children with the right start preparing for life outside beyond Fairmeadows.
