Welcome to Year 4
Hello. I'm Mr Cox, the Year 4 teacher. I have been a teacher at Fairmeadows now for nine years and have enjoyed teaching in classes all the way from Nursery up to Year 6.
I have a passion for sport, especially cricket, football and rugby. Unfortunately, I support Derby County so things are not always good! I also like to read and have 3 favourite books: ‘War Horse’, ‘Diary of a Killer Cat’ and ‘Ways to Live Forever’ while the best film I have ever seen is Star Wars. Playing guitar is another thing that I enjoy but I have not played for a while now as I have really taken to playing the ukulele. I think it's fabulous that children at our school are having the opportunity to learn how to play a range of instruments.
I also enjoy running, especially Wolf Runs even though they are really challenging and very messy!
Mrs B-P is also supporting the children in Year 4 and we are looking forward to an exciting year of fun and learning.
Reading - Children should read at least three times a week and bring their reading books daily. This is the most important way you can support your child with learning at home. Evidence of reading should be uploaded to Seesaw and added to the reading at home file, the staff can help you with this if you get stuck!
Spellings - Children will be given 10 words to learn and will be tested each Friday. These will be placed on Seesaw and should be practised on Spelling Shed every evening for at least 10 minutes.
Time Tables - Time Tables Rockstars should also be used daily to help children maintain their time table knowledge for at least 10 minutes.
Mathletics - Each week we will award a Mathletics champion in the class for the child with the most points that week.
Learning Warrior and Learning Powers
Our learning powers run throughout school and underpin the core values we work to and hope to develop in the children.
The Learning Powers are:
These Powers underpin our curriculum aims and develop growth-mind-set. They also provide our children with the right start preparing for life outside beyond Fairmeadows.
We support these through our Learning Warrior Scheme which rewards pupils for exhibiting these qualities.
Click on the links below to access some of the resources that will help with your learning in Year 2.
Your child will have their individual login details on their Seesaw account.
Forest School is an inspirational process that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in our very own woodland and natural environment. Children we have a session each week for the whole year.
