Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Hello. My name is Mrs Wassall and I am the Year 1 teacher at Fairmeadows. I have a passion for Art and strive to create a learning environment that is creative, engaging and fun.

When I am not in school, I spend time with my family, friends and my dog (Marley). I enjoy going on long walks with Marley and exploring new places. I also enjoy going to the cinema, eating out and going on holiday with my family.

Mrs Leech and I are excited for another fun filled year!

Homework

Reading - Children should read at least three times a week and bring their reading books daily. This is the most important way you can support your child with learning at home. Evidence of reading should be uploaded to Seesaw and added to the reading at home file, the staff can help you with this if you get stuck!

Spellings - Children will be given 5 words to learn and will be tested each Friday. These will be placed on Seesaw and should be practised on Spelling Shed every evening for at least 10 minutes.

Mathletics - Each week we will award a Mathletics champion in the class for the child with the most points that week.

Phonics- Children will be given graphemes they need to learn each week. These will be checked during reading sessions at school and your child will receive new ones when appropriate.

Learning Warrior and Learning Powers

Our learning powers run throughout school and underpin the core values we work to and hope to develop in the children.

The Learning Powers are:

  1. Enjoy Learning
  2. Have A Go
  3. Concentrate
  4. Keep trying
  5. Be Cooperative
  6. Use Your Imagination
  7. Be Curious
  8. Keep Improving

These Powers underpin our curriculum aims and develop growth-mind-set. They also provide our children with the right start preparing for life outside beyond Fairmeadows.

We support these through our Learning Warrior Scheme which rewards pupils for exhibiting these qualities.
