  • Football Festival

Fri 30 Sep 2016 Mr. Reeves

The football season for the Under 11 boys began today and Fairmeadows managed to come 3rd in their group narrowly missing out on the next round.

An excellent display from the team in the first match saw multiple opportunities spurned in a 0-0 draw with Linton, and, when Jenson Street had a goal ruled out for a foul on the 'keeper you started to feel it wouldn't be Fairmeadows' day. In the next match against a superb Heathfields outfit, an unfortunate mix-up in defence gifted them a goal against the run of play. Unable to recover, this meant Fairmeadows had to win their final game against a talented and determined Woodville outfit.

The best chances went to Woodville early on with marvellous saves from Logan Murphy in goal keeping Fairmeadows in the hunt. However, the tide then turned as super work in midfield from captain, Noah Baker, allowed 'Meadows to push on and create chances of their own. A wonderful run and cross saw Joshua Glover squeeze the ball just wide before nother mazy run saw Noah's last minute effort saved by the goalkeepers legs. 0-0 was a fair score but meant there was to be no progress for the team who had worked hard, played well and shown far more than results would suggest.

A good effort from the team: James Allcote, Noah Baker, Jamie Harrison, Henry Goring, Josh Glover, Corey Durdey, Jenson Street, Rhys Griffiths, Lucius Leslie and Logan Murphy,

A fabulous £140 raised today for cancer research. Cakes were baked, presented and consumed with enthusiasm as families came together at school in the fight to beat cancer.

Thank you to everyone who came along, volunteered and helped set up, clean up and make up the fantastic total raised.

  • Group Winners

Fri 30 Sep 2016 Mr. Reeves

Congratulations to the Girl's Under 11 football team who romped to victory in the group stage of the South Derbyshire District Championship.

An astounding record of P4 W3 D1 L0 was all the more impressive for the 4 clean sheets maintained at the back.

A slow start, a 0-0 draw with St. Edwards was followed by a 1-0 victory over Woodville thanks to a goal by Holly Wright. In the third game a splendid run, taking on 4 players culminated with a smashing finish from Olivia before Freya Hingley buried an opportunity in the final match to defeat St. Edwards 0-1.

The girls have qualified as group winners for next weeks finals. What a performance!
