Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

Hello! I am Mr Steer and I teach Year 6 at Fairmeadows.

Fairmeadows is a community-centred school where the children are encouraged to support each other and voice their own opinions. In Year 6, we seek to build independence by providing children with the opportunity to take on different responsibilities whilst also encouraging them to become confident and resilient individuals who are ready to face the road ahead.

Within our classroom, we work as a team where everyone is respected and treated with kindness. In our learning, curiosity is paramount to striving further and, as is a core belief at Fairmeadows, we do not tell children what to think, but only ask that they do think.

Working with us this year will be:

Mrs Garner

Mrs LeQuelenec

Homework

Children are given three SATS focused homework books to complete each week.

Pages are assigned weekly for the children to complete.

Homework club runs every Monday up until SATS. Children can attend and complete their homework for the week in class, with the support of staff and their friends.

Children are also expected to continue with their 3x weekly reads at home, as well as working on their multiplications (TT Rockstars or Hit the Button).

Learning Powers

Our learning powers run throughout school and underpin the core values we work to and hope to develop in the children.

The Learning Powers are:

  1. Enjoy Learning
  2. Have A Go
  3. Concentrate
  4. Keep trying
  5. Be Cooperative
  6. Use Your Imagination
  7. Be Curious
  8. Keep Improving

These Powers underpin our curriculum aims and develop growth mindset. They also provide our children with the right start preparing for life outside beyond Fairmeadows.

Forest Schools

Forest School is an inspirational process that offers all learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in our very own woodland and natural environment. In Year 6, children's Forest School sessions will be in the summer term.

Please see a list of clothing for your child's sessions.
