Pre-School

Welcome to our Pre-School

We have spaces available currently.

Please call the school office to enquire.

Hi. I am Mrs Wain - the Pre-School Manager.

I lead the sessions in our pre-school and oversee the provision in the setting.

I am looking forward to supporting your children's development this year.

In our pre-school we encourage child-led play with some structured adult-led inputs and activities. We try to embed strong Prime skills for the pupils to ensure they are 'School-Ready' by the Summer. We focus on Communication, Social, Emotional and Physical skills daily to promote the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning'.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me on Seesaw between 8am-4pm.

Uniform & Equipment

  • Children in pre-school have to wear the school uniform (see prospectus for requirements). However, to support with toilet training, we encourage pull-string tracksuit bottoms, as opposed to button-up/zip trousers, that can be challenging for children to manipulate independently.
  • Children must wear school shoes or black trainers, we do not encourage any 'boots'.
  • Children are able to bring in their own rucksack / bag each day. It is not a requirement to have the red logo book bag whilst in Pre-School.
  • Please bring a named water bottle to school each day. This must only contain water.
  • School provide a drink of milk (up to the age of 5) and a piece of fruit/vegetables for our daily snack.
  • We do not have timetables 'PE' or 'Forest School' sessions, so no need to purchase this uniform.

Characteristics of Effective Learning

The characteristics of effective learning describe factors that play a central role in a child’s learning and in becoming an effective learner. They represent processes rather than outcomes. When assessing and working with the children, we look out for these characteristics.

These are:

Playing and Exploring

  • Finding out & exploring
  • Using what they know in their play
  • Being willing to have a go

Active Learning

  • Being involved & concentrating
  • Keeping on trying
  • Enjoying achieving what they set out to do

Creating and Thinking Critically

  • Having their own ideas
  • Using what they already know to learn new things
  • Choosing ways to do things & finding new ways.
