Fairmeadows Champions -

During the District Finals at Greenbank last night Fairmeadows A team completed a dramatic clean sweep of the opposition on their way to claiming the District Championship for the sixth time in the last seven years. Having already gone undefeated in five matches during the preliminary event at John Port Fairmeadows will now represent South Derbyshire in the county finals!

The tournament pitted old rivals against each other and in the opening match Pennine Way snatched an early lead against Fairmeadows A. The team hit straight back with a basket of their own and ended up winning comfortably 8-2.

In their second match versus St Edwards Fairmeadows spurned many simple scoring opportunities but mangaed to up the tempo of their game to win by a margin of 8-4. At this point Fairmeadows A met Fairmeadows B who had finished third in the Etwall games but were finding the Distreict event a much tougher test. Losing to the A team 12-0 they nevertheless worked hard and gave their all - running hard and making every team work for the right to beat them.

In the following match against Woodville Fairmeadows ran out 14-0 winners despite Woodville starting the game with 6 instead of 5 players! Fairmeadows still triumphed and moved into their final game against Hilton already crowned as champions. Sterling performances from Sophie Dighton and Dylan Lamb quelled their threat and Jayden Clamp was deadly accurate in front of the posts carrying the team to a 6-0 victory and 15 points (the maximum).

Jayden Clamp collected the trophy on behalf of the team and the B team who finished in 4th place were just as delighted for their class mates as the A team were.

Congratulations to all who represented our school with so much skill and heart!
